WHO WE ARE
Pastor Cherryll Lynn Wallace, Senior Pastor
Pastor Cherryll Lynn Wallace moved to Fort Worth from Montana in 1999 to manage Daily Bread Ministries, a feeding program that was on a slab of concrete on our current property. In 2006, she established a formal place of ministry in our building. She became an ordained minister in 2008 and became lead pastor in 2010. Her faith, love and compassion for our congregation and community can be felt through her sermons and the way that she serves faithfully every day.
Roshone Johnson, Volunteer, Praise & Church Service Coordinator
Roshone is likely the first person you’ll encounter at Church on the Slab. His fun loving spirit and dynamic personality will make you feel like you’re on an adventure. He first encountered Church on the Slab when it was a feeding program outside, on the slab. He came and went for many years, with many stories of how God clearly wanted to be part of this congregation.
Roshone officially became caretaker in 2011 and has served faithfully since then. He wears many hats in our church including managing our clothing room and providing outreach by seeking out the “unserved” in our community.
Stacy Dickson, Volunteer, Outreach & Caretaker
Stacy’s title is caretaker but her ministry is in her smile, her servant heart and the way she interacts with the congregation, volunteers and those who show up in need of food or something from the clothing room. She also helps maintain our building and provides outreach to the unserved in our community.
OUR MEMBERS
Many of our members live on the streets of Fort Worth and they are card carrying members of Church on the Slab. To become a member, you must attend and sign the membership book 5 times. 5 = GRACE = JESUS. After 5 times, you receive a membership card and an identical card is placed on our Membership Wall.
Our members are real people, with talents, skills, stories and lives. They are God’s children who show up weekly to listen, praise, worship and enjoy a meal together. They may be housing insecure but they always have a home with us, with each other and in Jesus.

GOD’S MASTERPIECE THUS FAR
Cherryll Lynn Wallace knew early on that hers would be a life devoted to serving the Lord. A long-time resident of Kalispell, a small town just west of the Rockies in northwestern Montana, Cherryll and her family built their life. In Kalispell, Cherryll raised her children, worked at a Lutheran Bible camp and was part of a large, close-knit family. As one might imagine, she didn’t give much thought to relocating…at least not until one prophetic day at church.
A friend visiting from out of town invited Cherryll to accompany him to church. During the service, she unexpectedly became the focus of the sermon, having never met the church’s pastor. Moved by the Holy Spirit, the pastor announced an impromptu diversion. Leaving the pulpit, he walked over to Cherryll and said, “…and many will come through you to know the Lord. A microphone won’t be foreign to you.”
Shortly after and also unexpectedly, Cherryll learned her resume had been forwarded to Pastor Roy Gray of Daily Bread Ministries, Inc., an outdoor feeding program in Fort Worth, Texas. Pastor Gray and his prayer team believed – in faith – that Cherryll would come to help manage the feeding program.
Relocation to Texas was not simple. Mourning the recent loss of her 19-yearold son, losing her house and belongings to fire, having no transportation and little money, Cherryll’s faith was tested. The Lord, however, came to her in a visceral, transformative vision. In it, he reaffirmed his unwavering, ever-present existence and led Cherryll out of peril to safety; a harbinger of what was to come.
Cherryll began her service in Texas by managing the operations of Daily Bread Ministries alongside Pastor Gray. Unfortunately, a few years after her relocation, Pastor Gray was called home. Through the sadness and mourning of his passing, the Lord called Cherryll to establish a formal place of ministry.
Honoring Pastor Gray’s gift of faith, Cherryll – alongside her mentor, Pastor Alvin Sandlin – founded a house of worship. As the feeding program was outside, literally on a slab of concrete, it was suggested by those who attended that the new church be called Church on the Slab. In 2008, ordained by Pastor Alvin Sandlin, Cherryll officially became Pastor Cherryll Lynn Wallace.
On Palm Sunday 2010, Pastor Alvin Sandlin was preaching at Church on the Slab. While walking amongst the congregation, he stopped and sang “Do You Know My Jesus”. He then took one more step and breath and went home to be with Jesus.
“He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners.”
Having received her anointing to senior pastor at Church on the Slab, Pastor Cherryll has carried on and expanded the legacy of late Pastor Roy Gray and late Pastor Alvin Sandlin.
Church on the Slab welcomes all worshipers and has been particularly determined to be God’s vessel of grace to the community’s food and housing insecure. In fact, the community outreach ministry is something for which Pastor Cherryll and Church on the Slab have become quite renowned.
